Consuming Urban Poverty: What’s driving sub-Saharan Africa’s malnutrition problem?

Read an article by Jane Battersby, Principal Investigator of the Consuming Urban Poverty research project, calling for a re-framing of food insecurity and policy responses in light of the changing realities of food insecurity in Africa.

The article argues that the rapid increase in obesity and overweight in Africa is a new form of food insecurity and that current approaches to food insecurity not only fail to address, but may actually be accelerating this transition.
