UN-Habitat seeks interns for Housing and Slum Upgrading Branch

UN-Habitat has invited students or recent graudates to apply for an internship position in their Housing and Slum Upgrading Branch.

Under the direct supervision of the leader of the Housing Unit, the intern will work in one of the following two portfolios, with their relevant responsibilities (applicants are expected to specify which portfolio they are applying for):

Housing Policy & Finance

  • Provide general support to the team in work planning and coordination of the Housing Policy and Housing Finance portfolios, including research/normative papers and reports in best-practice tools and principles related to affordable housing; publications and technical notes on sustainable affordable housing
  • Assist in the Global Housing Strategy progamme management, following up on schedules and work progress
  • Contribute to reviewing current good practices and innovations in the housing policy sector, developing/managing new projects to enhance the impact of the Global Housing Strategy and the country and regional levels
  • Review national housing policies, national housing sector profiles, partners' and UN-Habitat project proposals/publication drafts as requested

Housing Rights and Human Rights

  • Support the activities of the United Nations Housing Rights Programme (UNHRP) and the activities focused on the human rights of marginalized groups such as youth, women and peoples with disabilities
  • Assist in ensuring substantive UN-Habitat representation in relevant human rights fora, including relevant inter-governmental and inter-agency processes, such as the UPR
  • Human Rights is a cross-cutting issue at UN-Habitat so interns will assist in the mainstreaming of human rights across the organisation
  • Assist in coordinating relevant human rights meetings and prepare background materials, notes, and act of follow-up activities, as required
  • Assist in the overall management, coordination and implementation of programme components. This includes: development of overall programme document and associated work plans/budget, contribute to strategic planning; preparation of progress reports; compiling relevant information; and identifying and synthesizing best practices and lessons learnt directly linked to Programme objectives.
