Urban heritage and conservation position available at UCT

The School of Architecture, Planning and Geomatics at the University of Cape Town seeks to appoint a convener of the Master of Philosophy in Conservation of the Built Environment programme.

This is a part-time position (25 hours per week) at the level of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (the level will be determined by qualifications, research record and experience). Black South African candidates will be preferred. The anticipated starting date is 1 November 2016.

Requirements include:

  • A master's degree in heritage studies, architecture, planning, archaeology or equivalent.
  • A record of research scholarship in heritage and/or professional engagement in heritage resource management.
  • Previous teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level is preferred.
  • An interest in built environment education generally (the process of motivating and negotiating the reconfiguration of the MPhil to an MProf degree demands such an interest) is preferred.

Candidates should have a defined area of research in heritage studies and/or conservation of the built environment and/or heritage resource management, and demonstrate a creative and innovative spirit in teaching and practice. Candidates should also demonstrate an ability or potential to teach at the intersection of different subjects through workshops and seminars to postgraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds and professional experiences.
