The Department took off during the 1997/98 session with the admission of 36 freshmen and 3 full members of staff who voluntarily transferred from the Department of Architecture and Design to the new department. The first set of graduands passed through at the end of the 2001/2002 session. The postgraduate programme commenced in 2003/2004 with the MSc and MURP programmes. The MPhil and PhD programmes were added in 2008.\n\nThe programme is designed to graduate professionals who are able to comprehend the complex nature of the problems and prospects of contemporary Nigerian towns and cities through competent teaching of a wide range of courses.
