The African Centre for Cities (ACC), located at the University of Cape Town (South Africa) now offers a postgraduate programme dedicated to issues surrounding the design and management of urban infrastructure.
The ACC was established in 2007 to serve as a platform for interdisciplinary research on urban issues - both theoretical and applied - across the University of Cape Town. Given the purpose of the ACC, its primary focus is on applied research aimed at addressing complex and intractable urban problems and challenges. This is undertaken in a manner that advances novel ways of contemplating and understanding urbanism across the global South, while remaining rooted in the realities of African urban spaces.
The MPhil in Urban Infrastructure: Design and Management is aimed at building capacity amongst those in government and the private sector with an interest in addressing the infrastructure and servicing challenges of African cities, particularly those affecting poorer inhabitants.
Modules offered in the programme include:
- Developing Cities: Issues and Strategies
- Sustainable Urban Systems
- Community Development
- Municipal Infrastructure Management
- Urban Renewal
- Integrated Urban Water Management
