Tuesday, 10 January 2012

From the 3 to 5 May 2011 a congregation of 14 African academics and UN-Habitat staff deliberated on cities and climate change in the context of planning education in Africa.

This was the second regional workshop organized by UN-Habitat under the Cities and Climate Change Academy, the first having taken place in Asia.

The African universities represented were Ardhi University (Tanzania), Kenyatta University, Nairobi University, Moi University (all from Kenya), University of Ibadan (Nigeria), Eduardo Mondlane University (Mozambique), Makerere University, Kampala University (both Uganda), University of Pretoria (South Africa), University of Botswana, University of Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) and Ecole Polytechnique of Architecture (Algeria).

The major aim of the workshop was to share experiences of climate change-related research and education in Africa. Participants were especially interested in how climate change-focused modules could be conceptualized and developed for integration into university curricula.
