The AAPS Editorial Board has finalised its selection of papers for submission to the GPEAN/Routledge publication Dialogues in Urban and Regional Planning, Volume 6.
The Global Planning Education Association Network (GPEAN) is an international network of planning school associations of which AAPS has been a member since 2001.
GPEAN coordinates and publishes the Dialogues in Urban and Regional Planning book series in association with Routledge. The Dialogues publications offer a selection of the best urban planning scholarship from the world’s planning school associations. The award-winning papers presented in the publications illustrate some of the concerns and discourses of planning scholars, and provide a glimpse into the state of planning theory and practice around the world.
The theme for the sixth volume of Dialogues will be ‘The Right to the City’. This theme expresses the challenges confronting planners and policymakers to ensure that everyone has equal access to the rights and privileges of city life, and how this touches all aspects of urbanization.
In January 2015 an AAPS Editorial Board was formed to undertake the task of collating and selecting papers for possible inclusion in Dialogues 6. After reading and ranking the various submissions, the Board has selected the following papers:
- ‘“Informal” Claims: The Complex Mobilization of Rights in African Cities’, by Claire Bénit-Gbaffou (University of the Witwatersrand) and Sophie Oldfield (University of Cape Town)
- ‘Humanism, Creativity and Rights: Invoking Henri Lefebvre’s Right to the City in the Tension Presented by Informal Settlements in South Africa Today’, by Marie Huchzermeyer (University of the Witwatersrand)
Congratulations to our colleagues on having their papers selected, and for producing such exemplary research.
