An exciting opportunity is now available to be involved in a major new collaborative international research project focused on lives at the urban periphery in three African cities: Addis Ababa, Johannesburg and Durban.
The research associated (RA) will make an important contribution to a three-year research project which focuses on how infrastructural investment and economic changes on the peripheries of three city-regions in Africa are shaped, governed and experienced, as well as how these processes impact on urban poverty. This project is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) (United Kingdom) and the National Research Foundation (NRF) (South Africa) as part of the Urban Transformations research programme.
The project is led by Dr Paula Meth and Dr Tom Goodfellow (Department of Urban Studies and Planning, University of Sheffield, UK) and Prof Alison Todes, Dr Sarah Charlton, Dr Margo Rubin and Prof Phil Harrison (School of Architecture and Planning, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa).
The RA will play a key role in the research process, particularly in relation to qualitative data collection and analysis which will involve spending substantial periods of time in either South Africa and/or Ethiopia in order to conduct fieldwork and carry out other related research tasks. In the latter stages of the project, the RA will contribute to writing research outputs and be involved in dissemination activities.
The closing date is 4 April 2016, with interviews to be held on 18 and 19 April 2016 (to be confirmed).
