The School of Architecture and Planning at the University of the Witwatersrand (Johannesburg, South Africa) has advertised a bursary for doctoral study of BRICS countries and emerging economies. The bursary will be linked to the work of the South African Research Chair in Spatial Analysis and City Planning.
The South African Research Chair in Spatial Analysis and City Planning (SA&CP) is an NRF-funded research entity situated in the School of Architecture and Planning. The SA&CP sits at the nexus of applied and scholarly research and has now entered into its second funding cycle and as one of its thematic interests is concerned with comparative research between cities in BRICS countries and emerging economies.
The Chair is looking to support a PhD candidate whose work would consider specific aspects of comparison between BRICS cities. Potentially these could include questions of urban governance, migration, informality, and development planning. The proposed work would also need to engage theoretically with current debates on New Comparative Urbanism and the concerns with theoretical production in the global South.
