An exciting opportunity is available to be involved in a major collaborative international research project focused on lives at the urban periphery in three African cities: Addis Ababa, Johannesburg and Durban.
The position offered is a one-year, fixed-term appointment (which could be available on a flexible basis over a longer period) with the University of Sheffield, but working in eThekwini and Gauteng, South Africa, and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Applicants should have completed or at least submitted their PhD in a relevant field, and should be prepared to start work very soon.
The researcher will make an important contribution to a three-year research project which focuses upon how infrastructural investment and economic changes on the peripheries of three city-regions in Africa are shaped, governed and experienced, and then how these processes impact on urban poverty. This project is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (United Kingdom) and the National Research Foundation (South Africa) as part of the ‘Urban Transformations’ research agenda.
The project is led by Dr Paula Meth and Dr Tom Goodfellow (Department of Urban Studies and Planning, University of Sheffield, United Kingdom) and Prof Alison Todes, Dr Sarah Charlton, Dr Margo Rubin and Prof Phil Harrison (School of Architecture and Planning, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa).
The closing date is 18 August 2016, with interviews to be held on 6 September (TBC).
