The final draft of the outcome document to be adopted at the Habitat III conference in October 2016 is now available for download.
The document was released after representatives from governments around the world reached agreement on its contents following 38 hours of non-stop negotiation at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
Earlier talks held in Surabaya, Indonesia, in July 2016 failed to deliver an agreement, partly because of disagreements over some of the New Urban Agenda’s language and implementation. A compromise has been reached regarding the contested inclusion of the phrase ‘the right to the city’.
Citiscope reports on the five major messages that we can take home from the New Urban Agenda’s process and product.
