UN-Habitat has launched Urban October 2016, a series of events to help raise awareness, promote participation, generate knowledge and engage the international community on sustainable urban development.
Urban October 2016 kick starts on 3 October with World Habitat Day, under the theme Housing at the Centre, and it will end on 31 October with World Cities Day and its theme is Inclusive Cities, Shared Development.
This year, Urban October is building up to and following Habitat III Conference taking place from 17 to 20 October in Quito, Ecuador, when the New Urban Agenda will be adopted. In addition, this Urban October will also mark one year since the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals where particular attention to cities and human settlements is highlighted under Goal 11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
