This week is your final chance to submit an abstract for the 14th International Conference on Urban Health, scheduled for 26 to 29 September 2017 in Coimbra, Portugal.
The 14th International Conference on Urban Health brings together researchers, educators, practitioners, policy-makers, health and urban stakeholders and community leaders across disciplines and sectors, geographic boundaries and high, middle and low-income countries, to exchange ideas and advance evidence-based policies and practice to promote health and equity for individuals in urban settings.
Ultimately, the conference aims to advance attention to and understanding of the multiple determinants of urban health and the effects of urbanization by: promoting transdisciplinary and, inter-sectoral collaborative research, education, policy and practice; fostering international discussion of urban health issues; and building networks among individuals engaged in urban health regionally and worldwide: public health and medical professionals, epidemiologists, urban planners, architects, geographers, climate change scientists, transportation experts and others who recognize the value of collaborative research, education, policy and interventions that promote urban health.
The theme of the 2017 conference, ‘Health Equity: The New Urban Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals’, places emphasis on the importance of health equity as a cross-cutting theme in urban settings, in light of the emerging Habitat III New Urban Agenda and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Across the conference domains participants will have an opportunity to discuss how the international sustainable development agenda can improve health, promoting equity, and reorienting the sustainable future of cities. Attention will be given to implementation and monitoring for urban health equity.
The conference will include presentations and workshops on the following areas:
- Urban governance and equity-oriented policies
- Understanding and addressing demographic, epidemiologic and societal change in cities
- Healthy urban planning, measurement and metrics, data and research
- Environmental health and urban sustainability
- Health care in cities – access, services and quality
